Macaw Digital Illustration

This was an academic project for my Digital Artistry class. For this we created a digital illustration in a flat color style of an endangered animal list provided to us. I decided to do a Macaw because of its bright color pattern and I thought it would be a really fun challenge.

Some fun facts about Macaws: The Macaw (Ara ararauna) is a highly intelligent bird that is found in the Amazonian rain forest. These lively birds mate for life and can live as long as sixty years. Macaws are the largest parrot in the family, and can grow to be between 2-4 pounds and can reach a wingspan of about 60 inches.

Macaws are known for their vibrant colored feathers which attracts people to illegally trading them. The WWF takes initiative to support efforts to stop importing of the wild birds to the US, and encourage captive breeding in it’s place.

Creative Freedom

I was not happy with the layout of the poster we were given so after I turned in my assignment I decided to revamp the layout of the poster. I did this to further the message of helping the bird since I didn’t get that vibe from the last poster. I wanted the focal point to be the bird and keep the rest simple since I did a pretty dang good illustration, if I do say so myself :) It also took me like 8 hours to do so I didn’t want to take away from that by adding a bunch of text. I wanted it to be straight and to the point.
